The Executive chairman of Esit Eket local Government Area, Mr. Iniobong Robson has reassured the people and residents in Esit Eket of peaceful existence and good governance that will in turn aide to reduce crime rate, ameliorate poverty and job opportunities for the unemployed.
Mr. Iniobong Robson; described Esit Eket as one of the most peaceful LGA in the country. Mr. Iniobong said there is no investor or business that can survive in an environment where criminal activities takes lead.
The chairman made the remarks in his office at Uquo while receiving the state police commissioner CP. Adeyemi Samuel; and some top brass officers who where on sensitisation/familiarisation tour to Esit Eket LGA.
He complain that the issue of cultism and kidnapping is becoming alarming and threatening to residents in Esit Eket.
He stressed that "eight" out of ten in a group of friends will either belong to one cult group or the other.
The council boss in his speech said the assurances he has for the people is peace; he commended the police chief on his determination to fight and reduce criminal activities in the state.
He told the team that crime rate in Esit Eket if not fiercely tackled will replicate what the State and people of Ukanafun LGA had experienced under the dreaded reign of ISO AKPAFID.
The state police commissioner in his presentation told the chairman that the police will not spare anyone involved in cultism. He emphasised that the sensitisation/familiarisation tour is base on reports of increase crime rate which Esit Eket is one of the target zone.
The CP maintained that the police are willing to salvage the situation hence their coming to the chairman to solicit for corporation for a formidable relationship on information gathering in the fight against crime and other social vices capable of distracting the existing peace and unity in the area so that indigenes and residents can go along with their routine activities and businesses without fear of the unknown.
The A/Ibom state police boss who was accompanied by the police public relations officer, Mr. Ogbeche; (Two I.C), Mopol 7 Ukana, SP. Adoeye Kunle; Oron Area Commander, Esit Eket DPO Mr. Martins Nelly; among others expressed sadness over the senseless killings recorded in the state since his short period of about three weeks presence in the State.
He cautioned and advised youths to desist from all acts of criminality, cultism, arms racketeering and any other incriminating acts.
Mr. Adeyemi; who is the 23rd. police boss in Akwa Ibom commended Governor Udom Emmanuel effort in developing the state with the establishment of industries for job opportunities and wealth creation. He said that good security is the only parameter for the sustainability of such development strides.
He urged parents to be proactive in the course of crime fighting.
He restated that the sensitisation/familiarisation tour is to help both parents and guardians to ensure it's their responsibility to discipline and carter for their children to avoid being lured into committing crime.
While reiterating his determination to fight crime, he added that his tenure in Akwa Ibom State as the police boss will not tolerate or spare anyone involved in the act of notoriety and other criminal activities under cultism.
The meeting had in attendance members of the Legislative, council vice chairman Mr. Samuel Itama and secretary Comrade Felix Udoh; Comrade Imoh Edoho; Evang. Isangedighi Imosan; SSA to the chairman on media and publicity, the traditional fathers among others.
Reacting, Mr. Robson reassured the police team of total compliance and collaboration to ensure safety of lives and properties in Esit Eket.
He said democracy entails looking at the office with public trust for the benefit of the larger society; He emphasised that it will bring no good to ourselves if we are not ready to be positively minded as a people and leaders in the fight against crime.
The council boss restated that he is in office to give good governance and to protect Esit Eket. He however advised that youths and students should consider themselves prime partners in achieving this course of ensuring a safer society.
He added that he will not condone or associate with those with no development plans towards enhancing the standard of Esit Eket people for a better future.
The chairman further reassured the police boss of executive, legislative and traditional collaboration to ensure cultism and other social vices is rid off in the area.
