Kaliningrad Stadium in Russia which will host Nigeria’s opening Group D game against Croatia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be officially opened on March 22 2018.
Friendly game between Russia’s second tier league club, Baltika and German side Schalke 04 will commemorate the opening of brand new stadium.
Kaliningrad stadium has a capacity of 35,212 and will host four group matches at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The group matches are Croatia vs Nigeria; Serbia vs Switzerland; Spain vs Morocco and England vs Belgium.
According to a report on sports.ru, the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Alexander Shenderuk-Zhidkov confirmed that the friend game to mark the opening of the stadium will hold on the 22nd of March.
“We agreed on March 22 as the date for the friendly match between Baltika and Schalke,” Zhidkov told sports.ru.
“We provide the hotel. The organizer of the match is “Gazprom.”
Kaliningrad is the only venue that is separate to mainland Russia.
