Here are some highlights of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon, member representing Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika Federal constituency in Abuja
1. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon donated Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000) and 10bags of rice each to PDP chapter in Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika; 10bags of rice and One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N160,000) to each of the 31wards in Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika Local Government Areas. He further announced the training of one engineer per ward across Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika federal constituency effect from January, 2018 and also intervened in what would have been a major embarrassment for the party in Abak and Etim Ekpo chapters by offsetting the rent of the party secretariat to the tune of Two Hundred Thousand Naira each (N200,000).
2. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon sponsored over 40 youths drawn from Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency and other parts of Akwa Ibom for oil and gas training. The first batch graduated in June, 2017 and more than 400 trainees have been trained so far.
3. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon was inducted into Afigh Iwaad Ekid in recognition of his contributions to youth development and selfless service to the people of Eket, Akwa Ibom, Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.
4. Halliburton in collaboration Akwa Ibom State Government Inaugurated of Akwa Ibom Oil and Gas Training and Research Center at Ibom E-library facilitated by Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon. The center is primed to be the first in Sub-Sahara Africa. Another landmark Oil and Gas Park in Onna facilitated by the lawmaker is set to be commissioned.
5. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon was honored by the National Leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria(NYCN) with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions to youth development. In October 2017.
6. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon visited Internally Displaced Persons camp at Iwukem Primary School, Etim Ekpo where he donated relief items to families affected by the security crisis in Udianga Anem, Obong and some parts of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
7. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon unveiled another batch of 35 trainees in Oil and Gas Project Management from the Hyundai Heavy Industries, Bayelsa State.
8. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel inspected the Local Content component of the Egina FPSO in South Korea which is already sailing to Nigeria to sail to Nigeria. It is the biggest oil FPSO in the world according to Samsung Heavy Industres. He later met top executives of Samsung Heavy Industries where he advised them to think about diversifying their operations in Sub Sahara Africa using Nigeria as a hub.
9. Third batch of trainees from Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika federal constituency who benefited from the capacity building programmes of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon graduated from Dormalong yard in Lagos.
10. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon spoke at the Global Nigerian Forum in Aberdeen, Scotland where he challenged the idea of an oil and gas industry that is dominated by foreigners and called for immediate action to re-engineer the oil and gas industry to the benefit of Nigerians.
11. The office of the Honourable Member partnered with Dakkada Women Initiative to empower the women of Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency at the Etim Ekpo Council Hall. Cash donations were made to support women engaged in MSMEs while wrappers were shared to 10 women per ward across the entire constituency. A total of 310 women benefitted from this gesture while another batch of 50 welder trainees graduated from Samsung training facility at LADOL Island, Lagos.
12. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel strongly endorsed the #NotTooYoungToRun Bill to reduce age requirement for our teeming youths to seek for elective offices and address the need to rethink policies that empower more youths to actively contribute in national development processes.
13. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon unveiled the Youth Empowerment Center located at Abak. The Center has a functional Library, Event/Conference Hall, Recreational facility, a well-equipped ICT/Skills Acquisition Center and a Constituency Office.
14. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon impacted positively on the education sector by purchasing 600 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms in addition to school fees for undergraduates and post graduate students. His performance so far is considered to be unprecedented in the history of the Federal Constituency.
15. Through Hon. Emmanuel Ekon, the Maritime Academy, Oron is now equipped with a state of the art Sea Diving Center. Furthermore, there is a proposed Oil and Gas Training Center at Government Technical College, Abak.
16. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon was recognized by Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria(PETAN) during their annual industry Dinner nite held at JW MARRIOTT Hotel, Galleria Houston, Texas for transforming Local Content development in Nigeria.
17. 2017 can best be described as a year in which the Local Content Committee of the House of Representives under the Chairmanship of Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon has worked assiduously to ensure strict compliance with the Local Content Act to bolster job creation and also transform the Oil and Gas Sector through effective legislation.
