Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr Akan Okon, has warned youths in the State, against allowing politicians mortgage their future, by being used as instruments of violence and destruction.
The Commissioner gave the warning, Tuesday, while speaking at the end of a training programme tagged, "Akan Okon's Driving Training for October Borns", held at G-Park Global Resort, Uyo.
Continuing, the erstwhile Finance Commissioner said some politicians are in the habit of using unsuspecting youths to instigate crisis in the State, while their children are studying overseas.
He however advised that rather than being used by politicians, youths in the State should focus more on self development, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship, for a brighter future.
"Don't allow politicians use you to problems. Some of the politicians, their children are schooling overseas, so don't allow them mortgage your future, focus more on self development", he said.
Speaking further, the Housing and Special Duties Commissioner said Governor Emmanuel is passionate about youth development in the State, pointing out that the State Chief Executive has met the expectations of the people, despite dwindling resources.
He particularly cited prompt payment of workers' salaries, payment of WAEC Registration fees, infrastructural development, and establishment of industries, as some of lofty achievements that have distinguished Governor Emmanuel, adding the Governor is not playing politics with the youths.
"The Governor is very particular about the youths of this State. In the last two years, even the blind can see that His Excellency has performed credibly well in his duties. There are some States that are unable to pay salaries, but in Akwa Ibom State, salaries are being paid as at when due. The Free and Compulsory Education is on, in addition to payments of WAEC Fees to students.
"We have a Governor that is very focused, he's youth friendly and under this economic situation in the country, he has been able to do certain things that other Governors cannot do and is even planning to do more. As you can see, Governor Udom Emmanuel was sent by God for us in Akwa Ibom State", the Commissioner said.
While acknowledging the industrialisation drive of the current administration, Okon thanked the youths for their unalloyed loyalty to the Governor, since his emergence in 2015 and solicited for more support, to enable him return in 2019.
"As you're all aware, Udom's focus is industrialisation, you don't just see it by words of mouth, you are living witnesses to the various industries that are coming in Akwa Ibom State and more are coming.
"I want thank you for the support you have given to your Governor, His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel and you know he's a governor today, because you people voted him in 2015. And because you are going to be there in 2019, you are going to return Governor Udom Emmanuel to the Hilltop Mansion.
"The Governor does not play politics with the youths, because the future of any society is with the youths. When you have youths with developed minds, then growth and development can come in", he maintained.
While also commending the youths for taking advantage of the programme, Mr Akan Okon expressed optimism that the knowledge gathered at the training will be beneficial to the trainees and will facilitate their chances of gaining employment.
Earlier, some visibly elated beneficiaries of the training programme had thanked the Commissioner for always identifying with the younger generation and further pledged their continued support to the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, beyond 2019.
