AKWA Ibom State House of Assembly has set up an Ad-hoc Committee to look into the unlawful activities of the different taskforces operating in the transportation sector of the state.
The Ad-hoc committee chaired by the Chief Whip and member representing Ini state constituency Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, has Friday Iwok of Abak state constituency and Aniekan Uko of Ibesikpo Asutan state constituency as members.

Other members of the committee include Aniefiok Denis, Mfon Ekong, Otobong Ndem, and Samuel Ufuo of Etinan, Nsit Ibom, Mkpat Enin and Mbo state constituencies respectively.
This came after exhaustive deliberation of the House on matter of urgent public importance brought before it by member representing Ukanafun constituency, Otobong Akpan during yesterday’s plenary.
Speaker of the House, Mr. Onofiok Luke urged the committee to conduct an in-depth study of activities of the different taskforce operating in the state and make appropriate recommendations.
Luke urged the committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of one Mrs. Enwoabasi Eshiet, who died recently following activities of taskforce.
He however, said that the ad-hoc committee was expected to submit its report within a period of one month.
Otobong Akpan who observed that the illegal operation of the different uniform groups, which claim to be taskforce operating in the transport sector often causingroad accidents and traffic jam was going out of control urged the House to call on relevant authorities in the transportation sector to urgently look into the matter.
Other lawmakers in their separate contributions decried the number of deaths recorded in the past few months following activities of the untrained taskforce, describing the situation in the state as pathetic and worrisome.
