Finally, the autonomy for local governments might have found a light at the end its tunnel, as House of Assembly speakers from the 36 states unanimously endorsed local government autonomy.
This move was adopted on Friday, during the conference of speakers of State legislatures held at Yola.
Hon. Ismail Abdulmumini Kamba, who is presently the Chairman of the conference and also the state speaker of Kebbi state said that a public hearing on the autonomy will be conducted across the country so as to get inputs from Nigerians.
Kamba urged National Assembly to fasten the pace of transmission for the approved Bill on "devolution of power to state assemblies" for consideration, validation and adoption.
He also emphasized on the commitment of state's assemblies in pushing forward the idea of devolution of power for sustainable growth and development.
It is indeed a welcomed development, because the adoption will accelerate advancement and improve the impact of democracy in Nigeria.
