Akwa United produced a flawless performance to thrash Katsina United Feeder team 7-0 in the first leg of the quarter final match in the Aiteo Cup competition played at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo Sunday.
Striker Christian Pyagbara scored four, Musa Newman, Kodjovi Dadzie and Michael Ibeh also scored as the Promise Keepers recorded a resounding victory and their biggest win of the season.
Akwa United stamped their authority in the game from the kickoff with a dominant performance against the Nationwide League side. Chigozie Chilekwu, Christopher Lolo and Cyril Olisema put up a memorable display to put their team in a comfortable position ahead of the second leg on Wednesday.
Defender Kodjovi Dadzie opened scoring in the 20th minute finishing off Cyril Olisema's clever pass. Akwa United extended their lead four minutes later when Musa Newman turned his marker inside out to score from Olisema's inch perfect pass.
Christian Pyagbara scored the third goal of the match from the penalty spot after Bello Lawal had handled the ball in the box. And moments after, the striker got his second of the match when he headed in Chigozie's cross.
In what was a one-sided affair, Katsina United Feeders had no response to their host onslaught as they were pegged back in their own half for a greater part of the game, in which they failed to register any attempt at goal. Akwa United went into the half time break with a healthy 4-0 lead.
On resumption, the 2015 Champions continued their attacking play and deservedly added to the scoreline through Pyagbara who completed his hat trick, tapping in Newman's low cross to make it 5-0 in the 57th minute.
The bulldozer striker then got his fourth goal of the game when he smashed in Chigozie's brilliant pass beyond Mustapha Mohamed in Katsina United Feeders goal.
Coach Abdu Maikaba introduced Amaechi Orji, Micheal Ibeh and Edem Akakatang into the game and the trio contributed positively with Ibeh putting the icing on the cake with a superb goal to cap his team's superlative display.
The Promise Keepers look good to advance to the semi final where they will battle Sunshine Stars but that will come after the second leg against Katsina United Feeders scheduled for Wednesday in Katsina.
Akwa United have now scored 19 goals in 4 Aiteo Cup matches with Christian Pyagbara 5, Hassan Babangida 3, and Amaechi Orji 3 among the leading scorers
