22-1-2019 a day to remember in Ukpom. In a their bid to ensure that they deliver their ward to the people's Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the soon coming general elections, zealous grassroot mobilizers in Ukpom ward 5, spearheaded by Honorable Councillor representing the area, Hon Ndifreke Ukpong (Akamba), Hon Ukai Samuel Inyang(Supervisory councillor for Agric) and the following members of the group Hon. Itoro Lawrence Etukudo(PDP vice chapter chairman), Mr Aniekan Michael James(Editor) and Engr Abasifreke Bassey, hosted the people of Ukpom at Ukpom Civic Centre, to highlight the numerous achievements of Deacon Udom Emmanuel in the state and local government area.
The event had in attendance political heavyweights in the ward, the Chairman of the council Hon Itoro Columba, represented by his indefatigable Vice Chairman Prince Etukobong, the ward chairman of the party Mr Anietie O. Akpan, Engr Okon Ikono, Obongawan Iniobong Akpan, Prince Nsikak Ntok, all PDP Excos, men, youths and women who shut down businesses to attend.
Giving an opening remark, Mr Anietie Akpan, the ward chairman appreciated the people for coming out en masse despite the fact that it was their big market day, confessing that the group choose that day in order to put the popularity of the party in ward 5 to test.
"This meeting was not easy to be hosted today being the big Edet market day in Ukpom, but it was to test the capacity and popularity of the party in the forth coming February and March 2019 general elections."
He used the privilege to request and implore the people to ensure that everyone is armed with permanent voter's card (PVC) in order to cast votes for the executive governor of the state Deacon Udom Emmanuel, and all the PDP flag bearers, telling the people why Udom Emmanuel should return for a second term, listing general hospital Ikono, Akwa Ibom state college of science and technology, Nung Ukim road and a host of other projects all over the state as samples.
Hon. Ndifreke Ukpong the councillor of Ukpom ward 5 expressed delight for the turn out of electorates despite being the big "Edet Market Day" in Ukpom, assuring that it shows that PDP is on ground and ready to vote all it's candidates to power.
Hon. Ukpong frowned at threats from the APC which claims that elections is over in the ward, that they have already won the election in Abuja, he therefore questioned that "since they have already won the election in Abuja why are they campaigning? Why are they blackmailing PDP candidates?"
He concluded by reminding why Ukpom people should vote for Governor Udom Emmanuel, Atiku Abubakar, Obong Engr Chris Ekpenyong, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo and Mbakara Ikono, he charged the people not to be deceived by other parties.
Also speaking, Hon Ukai Samuel Inyang the supervisory councillor for agric Ikono LGA, told the gargantuan gathering that a vote for PDP is a vote for a secured future, he sensitized the people on why voting PDP the best deal. Hon. Ukai Samuel Inyang thanked the people of Ukpom for standing by him and supporting him in office as the supervisor for agriculture.
Speaking on be half of the ward women, Obongawan Inibong Akpan praised the youths of Ukpom for always being responsible and organized people who are always ready to defend their mandates, charging them to vote and defend their votes. She commended the women of Ukpom for leaving their goods at the Market to accept and welcome PDP, stating that the act depicts Ukpom is PDP.
The vice chapter chairman of PDP in Ikono, Hon Itoro Lawrence Etukudo, advised the people to shun violence during the forth coming elections, pleading that they are not ready to lose any Ukpom citizen to electoral violence, saying that since Udom Emmanuel took over as governor, Akwa ibom has experienced total peace and development.
Hon. Dr Prince Etokobong, who stood in for the council chairman Hon. Itoro Columba, thanked Hon. Ndifreke Ukpong and Hon. Ukai Samuel Inyang, supervisory councillor for agric for deeming it fit to sensitize the electorates on the benefits of voting for all the PDP candidates come February and March 2019, he appreciated the people for always having faith in PDP and begged for more support. Dr Etokobong threw encomium on the market women for leaving behind their market products on a big market day to support the party. He advised the youths to shun violence, thuggery and unwarranted arguments, he charged them to mobilize and vote massively for PDP on the election days, baring in mind the need to defend their unit votes during the election.
He concluded by seeking more support for Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo and Mbakara Ikono who are the party's flag bearers for Federal House of Representatives and State House of Assembly respectively, stressing on their Philanthropic gestures to the people of Ukpom and Ikono in general..
