As Governorship election in the state draws near, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Ifiok Dr. Anny Asikpo has urged the people of Akwa Ibom State to get ready to return Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term, in order to sustain the prevailing peace currently enjoyed in the state.
Featuring on a live radio programme, monitored on Inspiration FM, the Dr. Asikpo who hails from Ikot Ekpene local government area noted that the state has in the past three years enjoyed peace unlike what was the case in the previous administration.
"There's absolute peace in the state. You can now sleep with both eyes closed, and move freely on the streets without being molested,"
Akwa Ibomites, vote Udom Emmanuel for a second term. That is the man who is truthful.
The state was made ungovernable based on his (Akpabio's) attitude. After he won, he did not see that each and every one of us that contested for various offices were right to contest".
The Ikot Ekpene born business man, publisher and former Senatorial candidate of the CPC in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, accused slammed Senator Akpabio for allegedly trying to play the role of a 'god father' in the politics of the state, saying such time where an individual would decide what goes on in the state has gone. He commended Governor Emmanuel for performing creditably in his first term, pointing that the numerous achievements of the current administration would speak for the Governor during election time.
It is very wrong wrong for one individual to think that he can allocate the power of an entire state on himself,"
On why he decided to dump the opposition, APC in the state, Obong Asikpo disclosed that he left the APC because the broom party believes in 'capturing power' and not winning. His revelation further confirms the widely accepted believe that APC is not grounded in Akwa Ibom despite the claim by its supporters that the party has a massive grassroot base in the state unlike the PDP.
"I don't believe in capturing power. I believe in winning. The people in APC believe in capturing power, that was why I left the party.
