Akwa United Storm Nnewi To Maintain Lead

League leaders Akwa United football club of Uyo are in Nnewi to take on big money spenders, FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday at the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah who are currently without a win in their last two games are placed 12th on the log with two consecutive losses including a 2-1 loss to MFM at the Agege Stadium as well as another loss to Wikki at Bauchi township stadium.


Speaking to sports journalists, coach Abdul Maikaba confirmed that there is no fresh injury and that 18 players made the trip including the team captain Oto-Obong Effiong and vice-Captain Emmanuel Ariwa while raising hopes on the quick recovery of injured striker Ajibola Otegbeye.


Assistant Coach, Aliyu Zubairu  said in the post-match press conference on Sunday that the technical crew was happy with the performance of the new players notably Kelly Kester whom he commended for having a huge understanding of the team's philosophy.
Akwa United sit atop the league table courtesy of a superior goal advantage over defending champions Plateau United.
