Case Against Next-of-Kin of Late Primary school Teachers: ACP Abibo Gives Evidence in Court

The Assistant Commissioner for Police in Akwa Ibom State, ACP, Deina Abibo has today given evidence in Court in the ongoing case against the Next-of-Kin of late Primary School Teachers in Akwa State (1991 – date) who were charged to court after being arrested for protesting at Akwa Ibom State Government House.

The accused persons are Eno-obong Kenneth; Benson Udo Benjamin and Utibe Sunday Okon, all male.
Before the Magistrate Court of Akwa Ibom State, Fulga Street, Uyo, presided over by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Archibong, during examination by Inibehe Effiong, Counsel to the defendants, the ACP noted that none of the accused persons were violent during their protest.

He stated that the protest was peaceful without inciting statements that could provoke violence on the placards of the protesters.
Asked whether the protesters had constituted themselves into nuisance during the protest, ACP Abibo said no. He also admitted that he has no right to arrest people on a peaceful protest.

Asked whether he will during his stay in the force arrest people on a peaceful protest, the ACP replied that he will not.
Registering her desire to present more witnesses against the defendants, Counsel to the prosecution, Inspector Glory applied for adjournment.
The court adjourned the case to October 13th 2017.
