Why Iheanacho only played eight minutes against Arsenal

By: Linus O.

Kelechi Iheanacho only played eight minutes against Arsenal in the Premier League opener on Friday.

Leicester City manager Craig Shakespeare has explained why Kelechi Iheanacho only saw eight minutes of action during their Premier League opener against Arsenal on Friday night.

The Foxes were impressive as they lost 4-3 to Arsenal in the opening game of the 2017/18 Premier League season but new signing Iheanacho started from the bench and only featured for less than 10 minutes as Leciester came from behind to lead, and then lose the game and Shakespeare has explained why he did not start the Nigeria international.

“He is behind on his fitness levels,” the Leicester City boss said.

revealed Kelechi Iheanacho will start from the bench at Arsenal in tonight’s Premier League opener because he is not fully fit.

The 20-year-old Nigeria star was not fully involved in Manchester city pre-season training as he tried to sort out his future.

He made his Leicester City debut in the team’s final pre-season game against German club Borussia Monchengladbach.

But he was only on the pitch for 17 minutes after he suffered a toe injury.

Meanwhile, Wilfred Ndidi played the entire match but Ahmed Musa was missing from the matchday squad to further fuel speculations over his future at the club.

Another Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi did not leave the Arsenal bench.
