OTOBONG AQUILA’S ATTEMPT TO DISRUPT NANS ZONE B SENATE MEETING SUFFERS SETBACK AS HER STOOGE, IBEREDEM ESHIET GETS IMPEACHED
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B has successfully conducted its Senate meeting at Abia State Polytechnic, Aba despite attempts by Otobong Aquila Akpan to disrupt the event in order to avert the impending impeachment of one of her cohorts, Iberedem Eshiet who before now was the Zonal Treasurer of the association but was earlier suspended on July 1st due to his unpardonable misdemeanours one of which was the illegal composition of a factional NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) in Akwa Ibom State thereby portraying the association in bad light. Sequel to his earlier suspension, a Senate Meeting was called to amongst other things, formally evict him from the association through a constitutionally backed impeachment. Information from credible sources who witnessed the happening has it that Aquila backed a bus full of touts to the venue of the event so as to disrupt the event. She however met a brick wall as the NANS Senators and Zonal Officers were undeterred and the Senate meeting proceeded as planned and Iberedem Eshiet was formally impeached and consequently seizes to function as Zone B Treasurer of NANS.
Proceedings at the NANS Zone B Senate Meeting which were witnessed by NANS Senators from the Zone, JCC Chairmen, Zone B exco, as well as stakeholders are as follows.
The Coordinator of NANS Zone B, Comrade Pedro briefed the Senate about the recent misconduct and misadventures of the Suspended Treasurer as follows:
1. Setting up a factional NANS/JCC in his state without any formal consultations when his office does not have such power,
2. Causing conflict and tension in Akwa Ibom State Students Community.
3. Impersonation: he deceived the Senators with forged documents during Delta State Convention showing that he was a Student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic before being allowed to contest elections just to find out he once attended Uyo City Polytechnic which being a private Polytechnic, is not a member union of NANS
Based on these misdemeanours, he was earlier suspended sequel to a petition from student leaders of the Zone.
This was followed by a call for motion of impeachment and same was moved by Senator Ikobong Ekette, SUG President of Akwa Ibom State University and seconded by the SUG President Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwot In the absence of an opposing motion, senators voted in the affirmative and officially endorsed his suspension.
In view of this development, Comr. Akwaowo Clifford Ukpong remains the NANS JCC Chairman, AKS and doubles as the highest students’ leader in the State. During his impeachment, the said Iberedem Eshiet acting on Aquila’s instructions and accompanied by their hirelings attempted to disrupt the proceedings but was ordered out of the senate floor but as stubborn as he was, he tried to resist and was disciplined by security operatives who later took him out of the senate vicinity. His official Identity Card as the NANS Zone B Treasurer was seized from him in other for him not to parade himself as an official of NANS. The said Iberedem was also accompanied by some dropouts claiming to be Senators (SUG Presidents) of NANS notable amongst them was a certain Idorenyin Ukpong who we gathered is a drop out from AKSU who intended to impersonate the Uniuyo SUG President at the Senate floor. He was disgracefully sent out of the Senate floor while deliberations proceeded. A disclaimer was issued to the general public to stop dealing with Iberedem Eshiet as NANS Zone B Treasurer as he has been impeached from office.
The NANS Zone B Convention which will mark the end of the Zone B Exco led by Comr. Pedro Obi and the current Leadership of the Joint Campus Committee in Akwa Ibom State led by Comr. Akwaowo Clifford is scheduled to hold on the 20th - 23rd of October in River State University, Port Harcourt.
